Google Wave Diary: Days 19 and 20
Days 19 and 20: I finally got my invites!!!
Well, Brandon and Nick both have become a part of Wave in the past few weeks, so the experience hasn't been so lonesome anymore. Being able to communicate on the fly in a message feed is pretty productive, important features are still unavailable; uploading and downloading files, advanced settings, and extensions are in the pipeline.
It's still a bit buggy, with it taking more than just a few seconds for a wave ready to be viewed, but that's expected. Mobile support, namely the iPhone's, is still a bit shady - text getting cut off. But I'm positive Google will have that all fixed when it becomes public.
One thing that I'm waiting for, and I'm sure it's being worked on as we speak, is some sort of integration with Gmail. As with checking Twitter, Facebook, and other social networking messages all on their own sites, it becomes a pain having to check Gmail, and then Wave for what's going on. Google would be wise to have all your incoming messages accessible and ready in one set place. Honestly, though, I think Gmail will eventually merge with Google Wave, once people have warmed up to what Wave is, and can do.
My experience with Wave has warmed up since my first initial thoughts. I can see what it will do, but at the moment it's not exactly as promised - but yes, it is a beta - so I will hold judgement until it's perfected and ready.
On a side note, and the moment you've been waiting for: I have quite a number of invites. At least 3 for sure. We'll be giving them out to a lucky few on next week's podcast - so stay tuned.
