We’re no strangers to Braun watches here at Okay Geek. We’ve reviewed the BN0032BKBKMHG before and we’re back with a look at the BN0035WHBKG today. As a part of the Tic Watches Braun Watch collection, this model features three hand chronograph movement and a leather strap. What’s in the Box?
The BN0035WHBKG watch comes in standard Braun packaging, which is to say two plastic boxes slotted together inside a paper sleeve. Inside, you will find only the watch, wrapped around a chunk of foam, and an instruction manual.
Design
The 40 mm (diameter) dial features a dark chrome ring on the face and a matte stainless steel finish around the rest of it.
At 9.3 mm, this watch is a little thicker than the 8 mm BN0032.
The face of the watch is covered by scratch resistant glass, which seems to be effective in my experience thus far.
All of the hour and minute markings are visible and easy to read, thanks to a clean font and lines.
A mechanical module in the lower right displays the date through a window styled curiously similarly to the iPhone’s calendar app icon.
Pull the crown out to its first position to set the date and the second position to set the time.
The first thing you’ll notice is that the watch face features three individual dials. The top left dial contains the chronograph minute hand, the right, the 24 hour hand, and the bottom, the small second hand.
There are three main hands on the face - two black ones for the hour and minute, as well as what looks to be a standard second hand, but is actually the “stopwatch” hand. The chronograph measures seconds via the the large yellow hand and seconds on the chronograph minute hand in the top left corner.
Basically, the yellow hand and the small left hand are used for stopwatch, while the bottom hand and the two central ones keep the actual 12 hour AM/PM time, and the top right hand displays it in terms of 24 hours. The layout is a little confusing but it all works out when you look at the watch.
The BN0035WHBKG’s stopwatch feature is triggered by clicking the button in the top right corner of the case and reset via the one in the lower right corner. At this point, the yellow second hand rapidly spins back to it’s starting position.
The quartz chronograph movement was accurate as far as I could tell - there’s no reason it wouldn’t. The watch is also water resistant to 5 ATM (50 m), so you won’t have to worry about its breaking if water happens to splash on it. I would, however, be more cautious about the strap.
Strap
The black genuine leather strap is pretty lightweight and thin. It secures via a metal latch and two leather bands.
A potential concern is cracking over time due to the high angle required to slot the strap into one of the two bands. As you can see in the photo above, there is some wear in that area, after a few weeks of use.
Comfort
Regardless of the size of your wrist, the BN0035 should be a pretty comfortable watch to wear. As mentioned above, the leather strap is lightweight and shouldn’t irritate your skin.
Overall
The Braun BN0035WHBKG truly is a fantastic watch. It’s no wonder that this model is a winner of the red dot design award of 2012 and iF gold award in 2012. The design is clean and all the basic functions are there. The BN0035 is hard not to recommend to anyone who loves design, especially the works of Dieter Rams.
