In 1999 Research in Motion (RIM) took a leap of faith and released something called the Blackberry. Blackberry was the device that everybody wanted. It was the smartphone of its early days, able to do email and other tasks, and its only limits it had was itself. Gosh, back in 1999 it was nothing more than a pager that looked like a chunky, laptop with fingerprints all over it. Of course it had lots of worries, like the release of the Palm VII which fell flat on its face. Then the arrival of the Apple Newton which also became a novelty item on Ebay 10 years later. But why did RIM have such a legendary success with the Blackberry, and in just 10 years. Engadget takes you back in time -- Ten years of Blackberry.
