iOS 5 Beta 3 isn't just bug fixes - Support for no home button and FaceTime AirPlay

iOS 5 was the biggest upgrade in Apple’s iOS operating system in years. Once the major release of the operating system comes out for developers it goes through usually 3-4 beta stages, without many things changing. But Apple’s biggest change is having some big changes in beta, and predictably, people are starting to go a bit nuts.

Support for no home button

AssisitiveTouch is a feature within iOS 5 which allows you to assign hardware components such as the home button and volume button into gestures. The gestures can be enabled by a bottom corner, once activated a panel rolls up where you can select which buttons on screen instead of actual buttons. This could possibly hint to the next iPhone not having any buttons or a serious decrease in the amount to buttons.

AirPlay for FaceTime

Ever since Apple has released AirPlay they have been pushing the technology to it’s full potential. Initially Apple launched it for Mac to Apple TV and now has pushed the product to the iPhone and iPad, and now with iOS beta 3 they are pushing it to it’s limits with video chats on the big screen. This is actually a really cool and exciting feature, and I’m hoping that Facebook Video Calling can be eventually operational on the iPhone. If this all pulls together it might push me to upgrade from my old Apple TV to the most recent.

Question for you

How does it feel knowing that Apple could be getting rid of their signature home button?
