Amazing Fallout Pip-Boy 3000 DIY project

Video game gadgets have been brought to life many times, usually as props or less elaborate versions of their virtual counterpart but usually astounding either way. It’s rare to find a piece of video game gear that works like it does in the game itself and this is exactly what has been accomplished with this Pip-Boy 3000 DIY project. It’s startling to see the similarities in the video and although there are a few things built differently, it’s still awesome to see the effort that’s been put into this project.

The entire thing is using the muscle of an HTC Desire HD smartphone and an Arduino board is allowing button presses to be sent to the phone via USB. The phone also acts as the screen and speakers to give it that familiar sound. According to the creator of this DIY, the casing was made by The RPF, which specializes in creating movie prop replicas.

Unfortunately there are some issues with the device like loose wiring and spotty soldering which make the Pip-Boy prone to having  problems. There’s also not much room inside the device, so unfortunately it’s not possible to wear the device, but soon there might be a solution. All the best to MyMagicPudding in finishing this DIY project!
