App Review - Wunderlist for iPhone

    Wunderlist

    App type: Task Manager
    Price: Free
Compatible: iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad - iOS 3.1 or later required
    Developer: 6 Wunderkinder

To-Do lists are a dime a dozen on the App store, but even with seemingly hundreds of choices I haven’t been able to find one that is both visually appealing and practical. That’s until I heard that the popular desktop application Wunderlist was making the jump to iOS devices. — Read our review after the break!

If you’re familiar with the desktop version of Wunderlist then you’ll be right at home with this new mobile counterpart. Retaining the same minimalistic style in terms of looks and functionality, the Wunderlist app is surely going to be a hit with iPhone users who are sick of having to go through tutorials for each to-do list app they download. As with the iPhone, the Wunderlist app just works, and it looks great while doing it.

All the same features that made the desktop versoin a hit are all available on the app; editable lists that can manage multiple tasks, sync capabilities across different platforms, and even the same attractive wallpapers that really make Wunderlist stand out from the competition.

Tasks are easily created at the top of the screen, and are filed within the corresponding List in which they are composed in. Lists themselves can also be created and arranged to your liking as well. Once complete, tasks can be checked off, which don’t delete them off the app but rather just fade them out toward the bottom. Tasks can also be starred by a single touch of the star icon, giving them a bright, red ribbon to denote higher priority, which better sorts the non-important things you need to do in your life with the absolute essentials that must get done. There’s also an option to assign “due dates” to any task, which can come in handy if you want to be reminded of them later.

When tasks are due, a numbered badge appears on the corner of the app’s icon on the iPhone home screen, notifying you of dated tasks meant for the current day. “Overdue” tasks also are kept track of within the app, so things on your to-do list don’t become forgotten. And if you’re ever curious as to what tasks you’ve starred, or specifically which are due for that day or tomorrow, all you need to do is go through the tabs located on the bottom of the app;  Lists, Starred, Current, Overdue, and More - which offers even more categories.

If you’ve recently made changes to your desktop version of Wunderlist, or perhaps even share a single Wunderlist account over multiple iPhones, syncing your tasks is as simple as dragging the screen down and releasing; no logging in required. And if the roles are reversed and you’re on your PC  and want to sync your desktop version of Wunderlist with the changes you’ve made on the iPhone app, you can easily click the green sync button located on the left-hand corner of the application.

And at the low price of not costing a single penny, it almost feels like you’re ripping the app’s developers off!

Also, as of December 22nd a new update was pushed out by Wunderkind, primarily adding notes to task, but also optimized the app for Retina display.

    Overall

For what it is, a simple task manager that uses priorities and badges to sort and notify the user of essential and non-important tasks, Wunderlist is the best out there. Its look, feel, and functionality all give it that Apple-esque flair to it, and at the astonishing price of free, it’s not even a question if you should download it or not; it’s a no-brainer!
