App Review - ZeroWatch

There are countless clock apps on the iPhone but when you look across the board there aren’t many that have that Ziiiro feel to them. What or who is Ziiiro? Well, they’re the makers of some of the most modern wrist watches you’ve ever set your eyes on. But does the attention-grabbing, time-telling accessory adapt itself well to its mobile app?

ZeroWatch
App Type: Clock
Price: Free
Compatible: iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad — iOS 3.0 or later required
Developer: ZIIIRO Watches & Mair Designs LLC

Right off the bat there aren’t any special features to speak of — such as alarms or weather updates, nothing like that — but what ZeroWatch has going for it is its ability to just sit there and look pretty. Think of it as one of those calming accessories you see on interesting people’s desks on tv, like Newton’s Cradles or the Famous Drinking Bird. However, aside from it looking like a piece of art in digital form, it’s also quite practical.

ZeroWatch has options to toggle not one, not two, but three separate clocks altogether, to display different time zones all in one, appealing space. The large clock at the top has three separate swirls; one large, one medium, and one small, each representing the hour, minute, and second, which also are placed in their corresponding location on an analog clock. Not only that, but they are constantly in motion, which honestly is quite entertaining to watch, seeing as the minute hand moves in real-time in relation to the second hand’s position. On the bottom clocks there is only one large swirl representing the hour’s time, so no minute or second hands

Aside from the time, the date is also displayed in the center of each clock — that is unless of course you change up the “Secondary Display” in the options menu and choose “Date Bubble” instead of the Single Time or Dual Time Zones options. You are also given the opportunity to select neither of them and have just the single time bubble up on the front screen if you so wish. And if you’re in the minimalist of minimal moods then you can disable the “Show Digits” option and ditch the actual numbers from showing up any of the clocks.

To note: When tapping on the center of the main clock a bar appears which lets you toggle the brightness on the screen, and there are a total of 11 color themes to choose from.

Overall

ZeroWatch may not be the most utilitarian of iPhone apps, and it’s not going to win any Swiss Army Knife of apps contest, but it is going to look darn good while sitting on the sidelines. The actual watches made by Ziiiro are quite nifty to say the least, and this iPhone app surely is its digital counterpart, not only in appearance but also in feel.
