Apple killing off Xserve in a few months

It’s official, Apple is killing off Xserve on Janurary 31st 2011 but they will still fully support the Xserve platform. This is just another step in Apple’s desire to be a consumer exclusive company, and drain all business aspects in their product line. The question is, will Apple’s business offerings be the next to leave the line.

Apple issued a transitional guide (PDF) that explains how new customers will use exsisting Apple products to work as servers — namely the Mac Mini and the Mac Pro running Snow Leopard Server. Customers who purchase an Xserve (up until January 31) will get the normal one-year warranty, and AppleCare customers will be able to extend that support to three years if they choose.

What we’re wondering is if Apple will soon kill off their exsisting business offerings to become a purley consumer focused company. This has been Steve Jobs’ goal from day one, and there is definately proof that Apple is moving in that direction.
