Apple's 27-inch Thunderbolt display is essentially an iMac, minus a few things
Apple’s been known for always releasing new products at the same price of their predecessors but with a few more features than last time around and this is very true with the new 27-inch Thunderbolt Display. It’s essentially an iMac minus a processor, RAM, Harddrive, Graphics card and OS. It has everything else like USB, Thunderbolt, Ethernet, FireWire, HD Facetime camera, Speakers, Mic and 27 inches of glory — but it also has one or two other tricks up it’s sleeve.
It can charge your MacBook — The new display has a built in Magsafe connector cable so that you can charge your Macbook, and save space in your wall outlets.
You can daisy-chain them together — you can connect multiple monitors to your MacBook through one Thunderbolt port, along with other devices (like an external hard-drive or capture device) and keep using the plethora of USB, FireWire and ethernet ports now at your disposal.
Camera, Speakers and Mic — The new display has an HD FaceTime camera, sterio speakers and a Mic to boot. Not many other monitors have much to show in this department.
Actually not that expensive — That is when you have $1000 bucks burning a hole in your pocket. The quality of Apple’s displays have always been great, and a comparable monitor from NEC shows none of the new features of the Thunderbolt display (and it’s still covered in plastic).
