Aweditorium - Tap, Listen, and Enjoy
Listening to music on my iPad has never been on my ‘favorite things to do’ list. But with the recent release of the hipster friendly Aweditorium app, I use it now more than ever to discover new indie artists and have an enjoyable, commercial free radio experience.
At the highly affordable price of FREE, Aweditorium is a massive grid with independent artists looking for users to give them a simple touch to launch their musical careers into the stars. Or at least, that’s how I see it.
The main menu displays hundreds of windows that each represent an artist and a particular song. Once a song has been tapped it begins to play on that artist’s page, where on top of being able to read the song’s karaoke style lyrics, you have buttons that give users to ability to share, like, or watch related videos about the artist without having to leave the current song that’s playing.
And much like the indie music discovery site, the sixtyone, you get pop-up bubbles with short blurbs that give some insight into the bio of the artists currently on your iPad’s stage. It’s very reminiscent of the pop-up videos in the late 90’s from VH1, if you need a frame of reference.
After a song winds up, it’ll branch off to another tune by another artist in the grid automatically. But if you want to, you can always manually pick who you want to listen to by going back to the main menu and selecting an image out of grid.
Aweditorium really goes to show what good the iPad can do as a stand alone device, aside from a computer. Having it set down on a table while it’s randomizing original Aweditorium jams as you sip on hot coffee, and not having to listen to any ads or commercials is a convenience that I hope no one takes for granted. And as an app, its well crafted design and functionality is second to none, even to bigger more well known apps, like Pandora and Last.FM.
It’s the perfect app to hook up to some external speakers and play at a casual gathering or a house party.
