Early Digg V4 Mockup - Is it better than the current V4?
Personally, I really like the new Digg and quite frankly, I don’t understand the comparison of Digg and Reddit. Digg I feel is meant for main-stream users like your mom, and Reddit is for geeks and is a 24/7 sausage fest. But the thing is, Digg has gotten into a bit of a mess — copying the core features of Twitter, and made their interface look like a fisher price toy. But on the flip side, have you looked at Reddit’s website recently? It looks like they couldn’t make it look more out-dated if they tried… heck, my 5/yo cousine could do a better job, with crayons and glue!
Since we’re on the topic of interfaces, have you noticed that Digg released a screenshot (seen above) of Digg v4 sometime in May that is obviously different than the new Digg we know today? Yeah, I just realized this and personally, I really want to see more of this early mock-up. It looks like it would feel more like the old Digg, and I prefer having the Digg buttons on the right side. With a lack of descriptions, the homepage is cleaner and I would really digg having the main navigation on the left hand side. Also the Digg button itself (in the mockup) is way better than the new Digg button on the homepage.
