Evernote 2.0 for Mac in a nutshell

Evernote is the amazing note taking service which Darryl and I absolutely love! Evernote has some amazing features behind its service but when it comes to collaboration it has always been lacking. Luckily Evernote has combatted a few of these problems and has released Evernote 2.0. Evernote 2.0 has three major updates stacks, in-app sharing, and a redesigned left bar. Below is a break down of all the major features and then an overall review of 2.0.

    Notebook Sharing

Evernote’s collaborative services have always been quite old-school, but finally they’re stepping up to the plate and they can almost compete with Google Docs. Essentially you can share your notebook with your friends for them to view right in the application, along with the ability for you to view your friends’ notebooks as well. If you have a premium account, your friends can even edit your documents –if you would like to give them the ability to do so.

Sharing your notebooks couldn’t be any easier. You can publish your notes through a URL which will even have an RSS feed attached to it for later notes that are published. Sharing with individuals and groups is also extremely simple: just type in their emails and click send. Although only premium users have the ability to get their notes edited, it’s still a very nice upgrade.

See someone’s notebook that you want to delve into? Easy just click the “link to my account” button as this will allow you to have it all accessible right in the Evernote application.

Notebook Stacks & Redesigned Left Panel

Are you a visual person? If so, stacks are definitely for you. Essentially it is a drag and drop interface and almost allows you to create groups or, as Evernote calls them, stacks, under notebooks.

The new left panel is absolutely delicious. Its beautiful gradients, delightfully pleasing shades, and snappy interface is almost as pretty as T3ch H3lp. It is definitely a refreshed design for the Evernote application and really goes along with Apples Snow Leopard interfaces.

    Final thoughts and future improvements

Evernote is an absolutely amazing service. Almost everything they offer is absolutely free and compatible across every device imaginable. Their latest update is definitely a move in the right direction; however, it still needs work.

Going social is definitely what they need to do, to allow them to obtain more users. Personally I believe all users should have the ability to edit other peoples documents and not just premium users. I believe that premium users should have an advanced collaborative ability with chat on the side just like Google Docs and even more collaborative features. The new stacks interface is nothing special but something that will definitely be useful. Evernote 2.0 is looking completely new and fresh and it really makes note taking fun!
