Everything you need to know about iPad 2
The iPad is now one of Apple’s most recognized products, mostly because of it’s emmense success but partly due to the fact that it’s a good product. We’ve been big fans of the iPad for a while now, and we have been watching these commercials and reading the news about all the new tablets arriving this year, and we are really impressed. How is Apple going to keep their lead? — Here’s what you should expect in the next iPad.
Everything you need to know so far
What will it be called? — Obviously, everyone is coining the phrase “iPad 2” which will most likely be the name for Apple’s next tablet. We can’t really think of any other sensable name, so iPad 2 it is.
Will it have a camera? — Two in fact. Recent videos of iPad 2 cases reveal that the iPad 2 will in fact have a rear facing camera. We think if Apple is going to include a rear facing camera, they’d be nuts not to include a front facing camera. The specs of the cameras are un-clear so far - but we’d guess something in-between the iPod Touch and iPhone 4.
Will it have a dual core proccessor? More RAM? — It would be nuts for Apple not to include a dual core proccessor in their newest tablet, and all the info released so far is pointing towards a custom Cortex-A9 dual core chip designed by Apple, running at 1.2 Ghz. If this is true, this really blows the doors off anything in these other tablets. Also, Apple will most likley pack another 256MB of RAM into the iPad 2, boosting it to 512MB of RAM.
Will it have a retina display? — No. If Apple were to include a retina display on the iPad 2, it would really be hard to keep that $499 price point they love so much without cutting corners. Rumors do sugest in-fact they will include an anti-reflective screen on the new iPad. The display could be up to 30-35% thinner, reducing the overall thickness of the device.
Will Apple introduce a CDMA model? — Most likley yes. The 3G version of the iPad 2 will be split into two different models, a GSM version and a CDMA version (same as the iPhone 4). There’s no sign of a single-chip soloution, so the iPhone 5 will most likley conform to the ways of iPad 2 and iPhone 4. The WiFi version of the iPad 2 will be treated the same.
Will the physical look of it change? — This is the most confusing rumor of them all. We have seen videos of and photos the iPad 2 which depict it as a chunkier tablet with a speaker “grill”, but we really hope it doesn’t look like that. What we do believe is that the iPad 2 will be indistiguishable from the iPad except from being a tad thinner and having a thinner besel.
Will they make a White iPad 2? — Recently, there have been leaked photos of white iPad 2 parts, and they do reveal a thinner besel, as well as a front camera hole. We really don’t know for sure if this is legit, but it does make sense that Apple would release a white iPad 2.
Will we see a glimpse of iOS 5? — Probably not. We haven’t even hit iOS 4.4 yet, so let’s not jump the gun on this rumor yet… but then again, new iOS features are one of the biggest selling points of a new Apple product.
Will it blend? — Yes.
In Summary
The iPad 2 will no doubt steal the attention of the tech industry for months to come, and the announcement happening March 2nd is sure to start the buzz storm. The iPad is still a good device, we just can’t help but dwell on the fact that 1 year later this fantastic tablet will be an under-powered toy…. well it does work as a good serving tray for drinks!
