Google Live Search will search as you type

Pressing “Enter” to search is so behind the times (even though we still use clickey buttons), and Google is starting to get interested. They’re planning to roll out a new feature set which will allow users to quickly see search results updated as they type, along with an auto-predicting search box (visible in the video). What really seems compelling is the accuracy of results you’ll get by seeing the current matches, before going into deeper territory. The video explains most of what I’m babbling on about…

This was first noticed by Rob Ousbey who was doing some everyday searching, and found that his search results were popping in, as he typed. He didn’t need to hit “Enter”, all he needed to do was type. This confused a lot of people, but the GoogleSystem blog says that the experiment isn’t currently available in Google labs. It seems as though it was a minor slip-up by the company, but we should be expecting an addition like this very soon — but considering the fact that it’s re-freshing the page every single time the search updates, Google is obviously working on this still.

Earlier today, I noticed that my Google results were centered in the middle of the page. This evening, I spotted that you don’t even need to hit the ‘Search’ button anymore - Google updates the results for you while you’re typing. Has anyone else seen this yet? It’s a testament to the speed of not just Google, but also broadband internet and web browers!
