How to create your own QR codes

Although most often seen in Japan, the use QR codes has been growing greatly. Now scanable by mobile devices like the iPhone and multiple Android phones, it’s never been easier to read information. If you’re looking to create your own QR code and share it with the world, we’ve found the perfect website for you.

The miniQR Website

When you first visit miniQR, you’ll notice the simple and clean design. It looks a lot like something Google would “design” for comparison. Right on the home page you’ll find a text field; this is where you’ll enter the QR code information. If you’re looking to enter a website URL, don’t forget the “http://” prefix. Once your done entering your information, be sure to hit the “advanced options” tab. This will allow you to specify a maximum size (in pixels) and the preffered shortcut (basically a hint).

One you’re happy with everything you’ve entered, hit submit. Within a few seconds, you’ll be brought to a new page that displays your QR Code. Feel free to save it as a PNG or take advantage of the available sharing options. You can link to the webpage, direct image address and even download it as a PDF or DOC file. It’s that simple.

Franz Enzenhofer (creator of miniQR) on QR Codes

“QR codes are links. QR codes link the desktop internet to the mobile internet, and if the QR codes are printed out: the physical world to the mobile internet! QR-codes start to pop up everywhere. And with iPhone & Android just starting to take off it’s time to stop being passive and to create QR codes for the real important stuff (i.e.: whatever comes to our mind while doing that internet thing).

Whenever something is linked there is the need to make these links even more shareable. The goal of miniQR.com: Make it easy and fast to create shareable QR-codes. miniQR.com is the tinyURL (or bit.ly) of QR-codes. Have fun.”

Overall

miniQR is definitely a great website for those who want to create their own QR codes. The site has apparently been getting hits “like crazy” and it’s left the founder amazed. When you do go over and try it out, do us a favor and send him an email. I’m sure the he’d love to know where all these website hits are coming from.
