How to fix any Macbook Pro heat problems by tweaking the fan speed

I recently purchased a new Macbook Pro (15” i5 320GB if you need to know) and I discovered after setting it on my lap that it was really hot (and I mean so hot I could feel my genitals start to burn up), so I thought to myself “this really can’t be good” and I decided to read the internet (queue the “internet reading music”).

I saw that almost everyone in the world was wondering why their Macbook Pro’s were running so hot, and some folks even reported that the Genius bar said “its designed that way, and it’s to spec” — and the sad part is, their right! — There is nothing wrong with your mac — it’s designed to run abusively hot, but still be within spec of hardware limitations. So again, there’s nothing wrong with your Mac, it just runs lava hot.

I came across a tool called smcFanControl which will let you control the two fans on your Macbook. In the video i’ll show you how to get the app up and running, and also give away the best settings for keeping your Mac cool and still have it run quietly.

Tutorial - How to make your Macbook run cooler

My temperatures dropped from 65 degrees (idle) to 38 degrees, and the Macbook is no longer hot, (and still quieter than my Dad’s laptop) hooray! Leave any further suggestions in the comments if you feel so entitled…
