Inside the Brilliant Mind of Leo Laporte
Every Sunday after lunch, thousands gather to watch TWiT Live - and it is hard to explain to your non-tech-savvy parents and friends what TWiT is. “A podcast?” they say, “what the heck is a podcast? Is it for your iPod?” and you say with great urgency, “no no no… its a Netcast!”
What Leo Laporte has done for thousands of geeks, is the most giving thing anyone can do. He has taken time, effort, and the courage to pass by the nighmares of TechTV, and move forward, ushering in a new era of intelligent entertainment for the individuals who don’t want to watch someone bark information at them. He has created a community; a following of people who are together, proving that you don’t need mounds of money, fancy film sets and big lights to make yourself heard - you just need to understand the mind of Leo Laporte…

Now that you have had a in-depth look at the cogs and gears that make TWiT run, you need to realize that this is not all just one guy, there is a team of people, a family of about 2 dozen, who may not belong to TWiT per say, but you should know them all very well, like: Patrick Norton, Chris Pirillo, John C. Dvorak, Adam Sessler, Kevin Rose, Morgan Webb and Alex Albrecht ( just to name a few ), who all survived the TechTV depression, and went off to form Revision3, and of course, TWiT.
Revision3 soon grew into a video only, geek-culture based network which was a lot like TechTV, and everyone raved over it. Diggnation was a smash hit, re-uniting the internet rockstars Kevin and Alex, and shows like Systm and Tekzilla brought back the many memories of the TechTV days.
Leo Laporte, on the other hand, went back to his roots as a radio host, and became “The Tech Guy” on his own radio show, and also hosting some other shows as well, like TWiT and Macbreak Weekly (along with 20 others). In just 5 years, “TWiT” had been formed, and moved out of Leo’s home, and into a cottage of it’s own with a new studio (always being upgraded it seems), and has since launched 22 shows, and amassed a thriving audience of near half a million people. This was all the single outcome of sleepless nights after being canned from TechTV, thinking and brainstorming a way to continue doing what he loved.
Leo continues to push forward, and innovate the ways we (the geeks) enjoy content. We want it so we aren’t treated like we’re stupid, we don’t have to be shut out from the conversation and that we are never left out of the loop. Leo stands by this, and handles our loyalty with care and professionalism, but sometimes a ball pops and everyone has to laugh!
