It's Official - Verizon will sell the iPad October 28th
Well, here you have it — a Verizon iPad coming late this month and that’s cool n’ all, but there are some major headscratcher’s. First off, Verizon will not be selling the iPad+3G model, they will only have the WiFi iPad in stock, which seems like a strange choice for a cellphone carrier. Since the iPad is GSM only, and Verizon is CDMA only, the two will not be able to work together to deliver 3G data — but here is the cool part…
Verison is going to give you 3G for your iPad, but instead of it being built-in 3G, it will be a Verizon mobile hotspot device. The MiFi device would normally run at around $270 on it’s own, plus the cost of the iPad (in this situation which makes this deal a sweet $150 discount, buying the two together, with a 16GB iPad model.
It gets a bit better — judging by the launch page and the press release, that price will not require you to have any contract, making this a really compelling deal. The thing is, would you want to carry around a MiFi everywhere with your iPad to get 3G, or get a 3G model from AT&T and have it built in (while sacrificing a great, no-contract deal)?
