Kiip.me - Earning real rewards for virtual achievements
Taking a stab at the traditional way awards and achievements are obtained in video games, Kiip (pronounced “keep”), is a new startup focused on big change in the gaming industry. Instead of the traditional method of receiving fake awards and points as you garner achievements, Kiip wants to bring you real rewards from well known brands. We were all a bit frustrated when we found out Xbox wasn’t going to be doing anything w/ their gamerpoints system, but this company seems have the right idea.
Introduction
This video will introduces you to the basic concept of Kiip and how their system works. Meet founder Brian Wong and along with some key people like Kevin Rose and Mark Goldstein as they discuss the company.
Thinking Forward
In the next few years or so, traditional acheivements will mean nothing to the average user. Receiving actual awards, just for playing a game, provides for a whole new kind of feeling. Just think of the marketing opportunities iOS developers could take advantage of. Let’s say the Angry Birds would support Kiip in the future. Their sales would be sure to increase greatly through time. Everyone wants to play a game that offers free material rewards; it’s a given.
Traditional advertising has hit its limits. I personally could not care less about generic iAds or Google Ads that annoy the user and take away from the gaming experience. With Kiip, it could really take the “straight line” of mobile marketing and twist it in direction we could not possibly foresee. This could be a huge revolution in the way we all see video games.
If you are developer looking to build Kiip into your application, a downloadable SDK is available on the official website.
