LulzSec Hacks Black & Berg and turns down $10,000 prize - "we did it for the lulz"
Most men hack stuff because there is a greater cause, a reward or profit, and sometimes for close and personal reasons. Some men even take down entire online empires (Amazon, Paypal, Playstation) to make a point and start a fire. But some men aren’t looking for profit, self-gain or world fame. Some men aren’t looking for anything logical, like money. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn… for the lulz.
“Hack our site, and we’ll give you $10k”
Black & Berg Cybersecurity wanted to make a point that their site was sound and safe, and put up a contest that if someone could hack in and change the image on the homepage they would recieve a prize of $10,000. Here’s where LulzSec comes in to play — LulzSec hacks things all day, and you’d imagine that when a website wants to be hacked, LulzSec would be the first ones there.
Well, LulzSec showed up and changed the homepage as asked, and left without a peep. Once they were contacted by Black & Berg asking where they should send the $10,000, LulzSec said this — “Keep your money… we did it for the lulz”. Truly staggering how ruthless LulzSec is when it comes to hacking, but it’s nice to know they don’t have any real motive except the lulz — forcing companies everywhere to tighten security to prevent hacks like this, and in the end, this is what we want as consumers.
