Min.us - Online file sharing made easy with drag and drop
There’s no denying that finding a good online file storage solution is key to working with others over long distances. For us here at Okay Geek, we’re avid users of DropBox, but this here min.us, a service built around unlimited storage through individual selection or drag-and-drop methods, have us considering our options.
Min.us is relatively new, launching only in October of last year, but has gotten a lot of attention as of late for adding some key features in its latest iterations — namely, v2.01. The basic idea of min.us is making file sharing as simple as possible, and giving people the basic tools to get things up on the web to share
Features
- Free registration gets you unlimited storage space — 50mb file limit per file
- Files saved onto min.us are never deleted or removed unless done so by user (or file break ToS)
- Drag and Drop, or browse and select, files to be added to your account’s timeline
- Searchable user profiles for navigating through files you specifically want
- Items can be set to either Private or Public sharing — direct URL’s can be shared
- Downloadable tools for mobile or desktop use
- Uploads are anonymous, however ip addresses are kept in case of extreme innappriorite material (CP)
Our Impressions
One of the best features seen in Min.us is the downloadable desktop tool. While you can upload files through browsers like Safari, Chrome, and Firefox, you can also get min.us in your system tray, waiting for you to drag and drop a file into it, where upon it will automatically begin uploading to your min.us account online. You’ll still have to go to your browser to customize sharing through public or private view, but it’s a fast way to get something online if you already have set your gallery to public. There’s also functionality to add captions to your files, just in case you need to specifiy some notes to users downloading.
Overall
There’s a lot of potential in min.us, especially since it’s free at the moment. Though that may not always be the case, as their FAQ section states that price models will eventually be thrown in to pay for the costs of the service, but that doesn’t count out the possibility that there may still be a free version available at that time. But for now it’s a simple and minimalistic tool to get the stuff you want to share out there to anyone you want.
