Real Life New York, Tilt Shifted in Miniature

This could possibly be the best Tilt Shifted videos I have ever seen - and that is saying a lot. I am sort of inspired by it, and I want to make my own one day, maybe tomorrow. You may ask why is this video on T3ch H3lp, its just fruity designer BS. I’ll tell you why - After the break!

How the creator made this video “The Sand Pit”

It is shot on a Nikon D3 (and one shot on a D80), as a series of stills. I used my Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 and Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 lenses for all of these shots. Most were shot at 4fps in DX crop mode, which is the fastest the D3 could continuously write out to the memory card. Shooting tilt-shift requires a tripod, as it is very hard to stabilise afterwards, and gives less flexibility in the final look. I opted to shoot it on normal lenses, which allowed me options in the depth of field and shot movement in post. - Sam O’Hare

What is Tilt-Shifting?

Tilt shifting is a way to take an ordinary photo or video, taken in real life, a miniature look. You do this buy using a special lens, which can cost thousands, or you can opt to take thousands of photos, and hours of video and edit them all in post-production.

Basically, if you have video footage, you take the video and speed it up (Small things move fast) and then you use some post processing effects like a directional blur to blur the top, and bottom of the frame to give an over exaggerated DOF (Depth of field) look, thus making everything look smaller
