Reeder for Mac Beta - First look
Reeder has been a smash hit on the iPad and iPhone, so naturally the Reeder team decided to move up a notch and create a spiffy new Mac application. Reeder’s goal is to simplify your news consumption, and create a place for your news that feels seperate from the web — away from distractions and cuddled in a slick interface that would make even Steve Jobs wet. Lets take a look…
A first look at Reeder for Mac
The good, epic and not great
Reeder for Mac seems to be just as polished as it was on Apples mobile platforms, yet it’s still in Beta, so I imagine there are a few things yet to be iron’d out. In terms of design and looks, this app is simply excellent, bringing core elements from the iPad and iPhone app, and giving them life on the Mac. The interface is smooth and the app as a whole is very fast — no slow downs, lag whatsoever.
We do have a few bones to pick with the app, obviously it’s a Mac only client, which is one of the perks for Mac users, but we also believe this could make a great PC app. Most of the other stuff like lack of features and poor support for organizing and searching content will be taken care of in the next release, so it’s not our place to judge everything until it’s done.
A closer look…
In summary
This is potentially one of the best ways to consume lots of news on your Mac, without the clutter of a browser and distractions of the web. The interface is slick and the app itself is fast and responsive. being able to start using the app right away is great — logging into your Google Reader account, and having Reeder automatically import and sync stuff for you. Great initial steps, and we can’t wait to see what the next release holds in store.
