I have heard the phrase “It’s on like Donkey Kong” said many times by many people, whether by a friend or on a show like Yu-gi-oh Abridged, and it’s always gotten a chuckle or at least a smirk out of me. Apparently, though, Nintendo is looking to ruin this happiness by trademarking this unique phrase. Whether it is for an add campaign or just so they always have it in their back pocket has not been revealed, but I think it is safe to say no one saw this coming.
The online community didn’t fret at this defeat for very long though, because people on forums everywhere are already thinking up alternatives that are just as humorous or insightful as the original. So far my favorite has been “It’s on like Megatron” but I’m sure there are many other fantastic ideas out there.
