Sony offering PS3 users 6 months of Qriocity for free
There’s been a whole lot of talk between the guys around the Okay Geek office about which streaming music service (Google’s Music Beta or Apple’s iCloud) we think is the best option to go with. Well, we were pretty unaware that Sony has had one for a while in Qriocity. Yeah, y’know that service that Sony kept talking about during the PSN outage which nobody really knew what it was about? Well, it’s actually a front for another service called Music Unlimited that gives you access to 7 million songs from all the major labels and allows you to stream them to multiple devices. And now Sony is offering 6 months free of the music streaming service to PS3 users.
While the whole PSN hack attack may now be a thing of the past, there’s no denying that we all learned a lot about a little known service named Qriocity. And as of today, Sony is now extending a warm invitation to new PS3 owners who want to get in on the service which hosts a pretty extensive music streaming service. At the moment the offer is only good for the following people:
- You are 18 or over
- You own a Playstation 3 system
- You do not currently hold or have not previously held a Music Unlimited subscription to the premium or basic plan
- You are in a supported country/region (US)
- Note: you will not be able to take advantage of the 180-day Subscription Free Trial on PS3 if you purchase other subscriptions.
More details on the service itself:
“The cloud-based, digital music service gives music lovers streaming, commercial-free access at anytime and anywhere to an ever expanding catalogue of currently over seven million licensed tracks from major labels includingUniversal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and EMI Music as well as leading independent labels and major publishers worldwide.”
Which just happens to conicide with the release of a brand new Android app that was launched earlier today with a number of Sony mobile hand-sets in mind.
“The Android App is compatible with Sony Ericsson’s Android-based mobile devices including Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia X10, Xperia X8, Xperia neo, as well as Android-based third party devices. You can download the App now from the Android Market.”
It’s nowhere near the types of cloud-based storage solutions that iCloud or Google’s Music Beta are offering, but it’s certainly not a slouch either. And for 6 free months of it, who can say no to that!
