SXSW Through the eyes of hipsters - Video
So I was on Vimeo, making my rounds and I saw that they had teamed up with CNN (of all people) and Vimeo had made a “beautiful” video of SXSW. I like their stuff, even though it’s a little artsy, so I knew it would be pretty cool to see tech, crowds and nerds in a 16:9 HD piece of art — I was very wrong.
What I got was not SXSW. I sat here watching a solid 2 minutes of dogs, bridges, dudes on bikes and people playing flutes. What the hell does this have to do with SXSW? I mean, the first 40 seconds is shots of people in costumes, random lights (bokeh of course), close-ups of food and cats. I would have had no clue they were in Austin, let alone SXSW. Maybe… maybe burning man?
In the end, it’s a cool video
The video isn’t meant to be for me, a geeky dude who wants to hear about new startups and see the crazy new bands and tech meetups. This video is for people who went to SXSW, and want to remember how it felt and what they had experienced. The video from a technical standpoint is great (besides the crappy “After Effects” text) and it was really cool to see the people — but if Vimeo is trying to do some CNN “reporting” on SXSW, they failed… with flying colors (again, in bokeh of course).
