The 5 Best Apps for your Samsung Galaxy Tab
So you have a new Galaxy Tab, what do you do now? You turn to T3ch H3lp’s resident Android expert on how to get the most out of your first Android Tablet, if you didn’t buy a JooJoo that is (and we hope you didn’t). The apps I will recommend have been tested and are currently in use by yours truly, meaning, they will use the appropriate screen real estate and they are just more useful of the Galaxy Tab’s larger form factor. So with that, let’s get into it!
3G Watchdog - Free
Why do you want it: If you have a Galaxy Tab from a major carrier, no doubt you want to keep track of your 3G data usage. I have the 2GB plan from Sprint so I want to be very conscious of how much I use when away from my WIFI connection. You don’t want to crack your data threshold unless you just have money giveaway. Chances are, you don’t. If you do, my twitter is @maxrobes2000.
Galaxy Choice - Free
Why Do you want it: It’s a smaller app store with apps that fit the Galaxy Tabs form factor. This cuts out the trial and error you may have been going through in looking for that perfect fit for your app instead of having that hideous border around your app. Granted, it’s “e-reader” heavy but I dare say the layout does make browsing for apps more pleasurable than the Market. All you have to do is fill out a profile about what you are interested in and presto, the apps that match that description come up. Very handy.
Evernote - Free
Why do you want it: We already know it’s handy and probably the best note taking app on the market. However, on The Galaxy Tab, reading and inputting your notes is just that much easier. The larger screen lends itself perfectly to Evernote. This is perfect for study groups, cooking recipes and maybe a little last minute cramming before an exam.
Twidroyd Pro - $3.99
Why do you want it: It feels like Twidroyd Pro’s Live Preview seem to have been custom made for tablet viewing. Just flip your tablet landscape and up comes your links in Live Preview in a size that is easier to see and make out. Pictures come up nice and big and webpages are readable in the pane next to your timeline. So far, Twidroyd Pro is the best option for the larger form factor. I can’t wait to see what other developers have in mind. If you want more specifics on Twidroyd Pro, you can check an earlier write up I did on it here.
Executive Assitant - $5.99
Why do you want it: Executive Assistant is one of those apps that pulls your Twitter, Facebook and Emails all in one place. But it also does this for your text messages, calendars and RSS feeds and it does it stylishly well. The widgets have several sizes and themes you can choose from. It’s an app that I am a big fan of and it’s installed on both my Epic 4G and my Galaxy Tab. Look for a full write up soon because this will be my next Max’s Apps selection. And boy is it worth it.
Wrapping it up
Well, that’s it. I know I didn’t mention any games in this article but I will have some game recommendations next week beyond Fruit Ninja, Angry Birds and City Jump. Those are all good games but chances are you’ve already tried them. So with that, get to downloading and enjoying them. Also, if you have questions about the tab, feel free to ask me on twitter, @maxrobes2000.
