The FPS where you use a camera instead of a gun
The idea of a First Person Shooter is brilliant because it’s so simple. It’s a safe and low-risk Blueprint for game developers to easily add emotion, character and story to a video game. It’s the fabric of most great story driven video games on the market today, but an increasingly overwhelming amount of these titles has the player wielding a weapon, usually being a gun. Now don’t get us wrong, FPS-shooter titles are always the staple of action in the gaming world, but what if we took that exact concept, but looked at it from a different angle… so to speak?
Warco - The FPS without guns
Something that makes FPS titles great is they are usually tied to meaningful real-world events, sometimes to do with war. This ignites the story telling all on it’s own, and gives players something they can relate to. Warco (seen above) brings this concept even closer to it’s core in a way we’ve never really seen before.
In Warco, you play as journalist Jesse DeMarco and it’s your job to craft the game’s story. Essentially your role has been flipped. You are thrown into hostile enviornments, armed with nothing but a camera and your job is to film everything you can, and get some great footage. You’ll then need to edit it together for the news and tell a story, so essentially, you’re documenting war, acting as the eyes for the rest of the world and this is a really exciting concept.
Watching the video, you can see that Warco isn’t state-of-the-art in any way, but inside there’s something there and judging by the response they’re getting, it won’t be too long until we hear about plans for a commercial release, and we’re really excited to take Warco for a spin.
