The Internet will reach 2 Billion users by 2011
This will be a milestone in technology history. The Internet had never set out to be a consumer network, it was instead designed and built for the army, businesses and the government. Fast forward a couple decades later, and we have this — a living, breathing network that flourishes with millions of websites, millions of videos and millions of people — and at the end of 2010, the internet will reach or surpass 2 billion users.
The number of people who had an internet connection at home has increased from 1.4 billion in 2009 to almost 1.6 billion in 2010. By the end of this year, 71% of the population in developed countries will be online compared to only 21% of the population in developing countries. Broadband speeds are dropping, bandwidth is increasing and there is no sign of it stopping.
