The iPad is the worlds fastest selling gadget

Do you know what Apple sells every 2 seconds? An iPad — and does that come as a surprise? Nope, not really. — Apple’s shiny iPad has been crowned with the title of the fastest selling gadget, with 49,000 sold every day and 4.5 Million every quarter, which is mind boggling but…

You may be thinking Netbooks sell twice as much as the iPad!” and that is true — but the thing is, the iPad is one device, made by one manufacture, and thus it is one gadget in itself. Netbooks are judged as a type of gadget, all of them put together doesn’t count as a single gadget. The iPad is the first one of it’s type, as of now — thus making it a lone wolf in it’s category. “By any account, the iPad is a runaway success of unprecedented proportion.” says Colin McGranahan, retail analyst at Bernstein Research.

Just for the sake of comparison, DVD Players sold about 350,000 units in their first year on the market, and it took the iPhone an entire quarter to reach one million units sold. The iPad on the other hand blasted to 3 Million units in less than 3 months, selling around 3 every second — dwarfing the competition.

It hasn’t been mentioned which gadget the iPad overtook (we’re guessing the iPhone or the DVD player), and that leaves a little uncertainty of what “the fastest selling gadget” means. We think we summed it up pretty well, but we know one thing — this “award” could become perminent in Apples trophy case, if the competition doesn’t start innovating and adapting to what people want — and what we want are great products at a fair price. Is that so hard?
