Tiny $25 PC runs Quake III like a champ
This little ARM based PC running Linux is called “Raspberry Pi” and it cost it’s developer only $25 to build. The end goal is to have it fit inside a USB stick, but that’s far off from now. Still, this thing is a wonder when it comes to low-cost computing, and it’s proved that recently by playing Quake III at 1920x1080 with 4x AA at 10-30 FPS. Truly impressive, and it’s awesome to watch this little guy in action!
In the video above, you can clearly see that Raspberry Pi can seriously pull it’s own weight when it comes to some gaming. I mean, wouldn’t it be awesome to have a handful of tiny little devices you could instantly hook up to a bunch of monitors and start a Quake LAN party? I mean this thing should be called “Quake LAN Party in a Box”.
Raspberry Pi also has a few other tricks up it’s sleeve besides being so small. It also has very little heat output so it can be crammed into all sorts of tiny spaces. It’s powered by a Broadcom BCM2835 which is the same processor that the Roku 2 XS uses, and of course this little PC is just $25. With so many different applications, jobs and gaming to be done, Raspberry Pi has a bright future!
