Tomorrow is Abandon Digg Day - It's getting ugly
Digg v4 was one of the most hyped website releases in history, and everyone knew that it was either going to improve, or bury the site forever — and sadly (judging by the comments sections) people are trolling harder than they every have before — and it’s now official that August 30th (Monday) is “Abandon Digg Day)” or as T3ch H3lp likes to call it “ADD”. No pun intended.
The main reason people are insanely pissed is the fact that 60% of the front page news is from main-stream publishers and the other 40% is from Mashable. When you view the Top News section on Digg, you are completely overwhelmed by main-stream publishers, publishing their own news! — and the scary part is they can have as low as 50 Diggs, and still make it to the front page, while other user submitted content is struggling to make it onto the front page with 200 Diggs or more.
A view of the Digg “Top News” Page
Clearly there is some huge problems with the new Digg, and if you read any front page stories’ comment section, you’ll find nothing but hate and negativity towards Digg along with links to posts (like this) that are exploiting some major problems with the new system.
Why I still (somewhat) enjoy the new Digg
I admit, I still quite enjoy the new Digg because I have completely ignored the “Top News” page for quite a while, and now enjoy the “My News” section quite a lot. Basically I prefer reading news that my friends enjoy, and following news sites and people I respect, and I’ve replaced my Google Reader with Digg.
I want to know what you think about the new Digg, and whether you’re participating in Abandon Digg Day.
