Top 16 requested features for Squarespace v6

With the tremendous growth of Squarespace in the past years, it’s grown to be one of the best options for anyone who wants to get a website online. You might not know it, but Okay Geek has been completely built and designed using Squarespace. With so many people signing up for their service, there has been a craving for new features. We’ve searched the Squarespace Forums and have dug up some of the top requested features for Squarespace V6.

Updated Forum Module — This has been a long requested feature for most people. The current module simply isn’t cutting it and it’s lacking some traditional forum elements. Users would like to see a centralized page that contains multiple forums and advanced profile features (profile picture, location, links, etc). They’d like to see polls, categories and other features that traditional forum websites support too.

“Untemplated” Templates — Squarespace has used this tag line for quite some time. Sure, the templates allow for complete customization, but they’re getting pretty bland and old for this day in age. Users who aren’t skilled designers want to see more design options and templates.

More Font Choices — This is pretty straight forward. Right now, there are only eight to choose from and users could definitely benefit from a wider selection. Maybe some more sans-serif fonts.

More Import Options — I’ve seen it time and time again. Users want to import their blog from services like Tumblr and not just Wordpress or Blogger. There are so many people who’d like to take advantage of this feature but just can’t. (Please keep in mind that Tumblr doesn’t have a way to export data as blog posts as of now. It’s just a feature people would like to see).

Android Application — This is a feature I can’t wait for. As of now, it’s in beta and should be rolled out to the pubic soon. It’s been requested along side of the iPhone and iPad application and it’s almost here.

E-Commerce Solution — Users would like to create an online store in which visitors can view products, add them to a cart and then check out right on the website. As of right now, people use services like Paypal to achieve this kind of functionality and it would be great to see a “in-house” solution.

Mobile Websites — With the explosion of mobile devices in the past few years, many websites have been optimized to support them. Many users have created mobile websites using Squarespace (like Okay Geek) with third-party resources such as iWebkit, but non-web developers have been left behind. It’d be great to see a feature that allows for more a condensed version of a website.

    • Most Popular Widget
    • Member Subscription Management
    • Comment Threading
    • Video Gallery Module

    Anthony Casalena’s Statement

“Squarespace is working on a completely re-thought, major upgrade to the core system. It has ~6 major initiatives, covering raw content management and content grouping, media management, rethinking our module architecture to become more open and lightweight, a completely new template interface (no more 1/2/3 column choices), completely revised developer tools, completely revised consumer tools that are built upon the developer interface, and a selective display system integrated with the new template interface to solve the presentation options required by more complex sites.”Anthony Casalena, Squarespace Founder & CEO
