Tweetdeck has some new Android Widgets - Do you?

TweetDeck keeps churning out new improvements to their already impressive TweetDeck for Android Twitter client. And finally we get another feature that I’ve been waiting for; The ability to get dedicated columns for my other Twitter account and my Facebook account. Can you say bye-bye Facebook for Android? If there’s changes weren’t enough for you to download TweetDeck for Android Beta 8, I think I know what will: WIDGETS!

The latest offering, Version 0.9.8, widgets are available and again, TweetDeck does it there way. In TweetDeck for Android Beta 8, you will find three widgets:

    • A Compose Widget
    • A Column Widget
    • A Quick Launch Widget

    The Compose Widget

The Compose Widget is my favorite so far. I enjoy being able to post messages on the go without opening the application and it also will allow you to open the camera from the same widget for some quick TwitPics. Another very handy feature is being able to select which account you want to update, right from the widget. This is very flexible feature for those of us who have migrated to TweetDeck for Android as not only our primary Twitter client but as our primary Facebook or FourSquare client as well. You will definitely find alot of use for this one.

    The Column Widget

I’m more torn with this widget. I like being able to just select any column I want to check from this widget. I can see a use for this. But I can’t see a use for showing only two status updates at a time, especially since it’s not scrollable. If you want to see more posts in a certain column, you’ll have to open TweetDeck for Android by pushing the “Open Column” button on the widget. That may be little cumbersome after a while. Especially if you are looking  for a constant stream of updates like an exciting trending topic or breaking news.

    The Quick Launch Widget

It does exactly what it is says. It’s a very nimble widget. It does the same thing as The Column Widget. As a matter fact, it’s the column widget without having the “two post” window there. I actually prefer this one over the column widget because, if I can only see two status that I can’t scroll through, then I’d prefer to open up the column I want to view. And it does expand with each column you have in TweetDeck for Android.  The cool thing about the column and quick launch widgets is when you have new posts waiting in the columns, that section glows TweetDeck yellow. A very nice touch.

Feel free to download the latest beta here from TweetDeck and enjoy! Below you’ll find some screenshots of them in action:
