Wikileaks is back with a new DNS provider
EasyDNS now has wikileaks.org back up. thanks to members of the Wikileaks team. Pingdom, a service that monitors the status of websites tweeted that the Wikileaks.org domain had returned to service at 4:23am CET on Saturday. As of today it points to the Wikileaks mirror page where all of it’s documents were originally hosted and maintained.
Wikileaks’ domain was originally taken down and uses had top visit Wikileaks via an IP address. The site reappeared once it moved to Switzerland under the domain name Wikileaks.ch.
All this information is very easy to misinterpret due to the name of Wikileaks DNS providers. First off, supporters of Wikileaks mistakenly put some serious heat on the DNS provider EasyDNS, and shortly after they discovered they confused EasyDNS with EveryDNS and attacked the wrong DNS provider. Wikileaks themselves then approached EasyDNS and attempted to get their three domains hosted: wikileaks.org, wikileaks.ch and wikileaks.nl.
Wikileaks.org took a bit longer to materialize than the other domains, but it’s now back up and Wikileaks’ supporters have created hundreds mirrors of the website in the event that it goes down again. Currently a scan has showed that there are 1885 mirrors of the website as of December 12.
Do you support Wikileaks and what they are doing, or are you just confused?
