Windows Phone OS created in HTML5, allows you to try before you buy
We all know how the retail world works when it comes to “trying out” a new smartphone. You want to see how it feels, and how it works, but more importantly the OS that runs on-top of it, but more than likely all you’ll get is a dumb plastic model with a fake screen, and if you’re lucky, you may have a select working model to play with in-store. Microsoft decided to throw caution to the wind and re-create their Windows Phone OS in HTML5 for people to try out before they buy.
Windows Phone in HTML5 (Requires Google Chrome)
The level Microsoft went into the OS when re-creating it in HTML5 is awesome, and we think it speaks volumes to the creativity and drive of their Windows Phone team, but sadly, the demo doesn’t work in Firefox or even more oddly, Microsoft’s own browser.
In terms of helping people hop the fence into Windows Phone ville, this is a pretty slick move by Microsoft and it should be followed by anyone trying to gain traction in any market. Giving customers a chance to use your product, and feel what it’s like without having to go anywhere, or take any action is priceless. We want more of this innitiative Microsoft, but try to aim it at the real thing sometimes…
