Apple launches new iMac - 2.8 GHz Core i7, 27" screen | more specs

Apple has always been excellent at making stuff that we thought was impossible to do, and then taking it, and blowing our minds even more. The new iMac is a great example of Apple's design expertise and esthetic taste. They took something that was already the best looking desktop PC and turned it into a better looking, more powerful monster.

Gone is the 20" model and introduced in its place is a slightly bigger 21.5 inch model which has more processing capabilities, and includes the same great look as the next model, a giant 27" behemoth! This thing is bigger than the TV you have in your bedroom. We cannot wait to see one of these close up.

Apple has also thrown in more powerful parts. See more after the break.

Proccessor

The processors on the iMac have always been amazing considering the form factor and size of the machines. We still don't know how they stay at safe temperatures, but apple did it again! They have crammed a whopping 3.33 GHz CPU in a 21.5" iMac and in the 27" they have loaded a intense 2.8Ghz Quad Core i7.

21.5-inch and 27-inch models 27-inch models only,
3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz quad-core Intel Core i5
3.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz quad-core Intel Core i7

Video Cards

The iMac has always been victim to using under powered video cards, like the 9400M and lower end cards. Now the iMac's have a new level of GPU power.

27-inch model with dual-core processor 27-inch model with quad-core processor
ATI Radeon HD 4670 | 256MB of GDDR3 memory ATI Radeon HD 4850 | 512MB of GDDR3 memory
ATI Radeon HD 4850 | 512MB of GDDR3 memory

21.5-inch model with dual-core processor
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M | 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory
ATI Radeon HD 4670 | 256MB of GDDR3 memory

More Stuff and prices

Sadly, there is no Bluray drive like some of the rumors suggested.

The new iMac starts at $1,199, which is a little on the pricey side but hey, thats Apple right? There is 3 other models, among others when you start customizing.

21.5" 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo | GeForce 9400M | $1,199

21.5" 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo | Radeon HD 4670 | $1,499

27"    3.06GHz Core 2 Duo | ATI Radeon HD 4670 | $1,699

27"    2.66GHz Core i5 | Radeon HD 4850 | $1,999
