'Wolverine' Uploader Faces 3 Years and a Heavy Fine. Was it Worth it?
X-Men Origins: Wolverine was a movie that came and went with a 'meh', but why? Possibly because the movie was leaked online for everyone to download at their leisure a whole month before it was due out for release. Were you one of the couple million who snatched up the non-finished copy? Well, if you did then you're in no trouble really, but the guy (one of the guys I should say) who you got it from - let's just say he may be facing some serious jail time for originally uploading the movie back in April of this year.
Gilberto Sanchez, 47, was arrested in the Bronx, N.Y., early Wednesday morning by FBI agents without incident, law enforcement sources told CNET. A spokeswoman from the FBI's Los Angeles field office, which led the investigation, confirmed the arrest.
If convicted, Sanchez faces up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine, or twice the gross gain or gross loss attributable to the offense, whichever is greater.

To clarify, Sanchez is not suspected of being the original uploader of the movie, but his part in putting it up on MegaUpload couldn't be overlooked by Fox's lawyers. Apparently, the bittorrent/ megaupload incident as a whole cost 20th Century Fox millions of dollars in would be ticket sales. It was reported that by the time the movie was set to be released, the leak had already been watched over 4 million times. Now just convert that into how much a movie ticket costs and you have yourself a pretty nice hunk of change; about 40 million dollars worth of change, give or take.
So next time you think about making the internet happy by providing them with something you know is illegal, you better think twice - It could cost you more than just your ISP disconnecting your service. An hero time!
