Is OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard the worst Apple OS so far?
Apple has been famous for the "Virus free" and "No Hassles" os which we have all come to adore "Including me". Leopard was a huge overhaul of the OS in many ways, the fan-out dock "Stacks", the cover flow in the finder and other intense updates to the cosmetic and under-the-hood aspects of the OS.
Snow leopard, however, only changed things "Under the hood" like a service pack or an update. So why was this considered an OS and not an "Update" or "Service Pack"?
The Madness of success
The reason why Apple made a huge deal of this is first they knew they had to get people to update because there is going to be another OS release, but it will require you to do the "Snow Leopard" update. Many people don't know what update means or service pack, so if they had advertised Snow Leopard as a Service pack or Update, people would have let it pass by, thus making them incapable of the next update.
It was very smart of them to run such a bit campaign for this "OS" because it got people exited, and looking forward to the update. The key thing here is the price point.
When they announced the price that just fueled the fire and now everyone wanted it. Heck it was even competing against Windows 7...
Why it can't compete with Windows 7
Windows seven is in fact a new "OS" and not an update. Snow Leopard on the other hand is more of an update than an OS. You may be thinking, "Oh tomato tamata" but when it comes down to it, Windows 7 is a complete overhaul of the OS. Looks, Functionality, Features, and Programs.
Snow Leopard is just under the hood with a few (Hardly noticeable) features sprinkled on it. That's why it is called Snow Leopard
Notice the trend.. Panther, Tiger, Leopard, Snow leopard? Snow leopard is just another flavour of Leopard.
Why it is the worst Apple OS
It's not an OS. Its an Update or Service pack, Just like Service pack 2 is for Vista, (Except apple calls it a different breed of the animal they call there OS's)
It is one of apples finest updates, Faster, Smaller size on your HDD, and more stable, it just IS NOT an OS.
