When is the Apple Tablet coming? - All your questions answered, plus all the details
The Apple tablet has been in Apple's fortress of solitude for months now and you and I are chomping at the bit. Everyone has had their pants in a knot over these rumors and "leaks" and we are tired of not getting answers. We can't wait for the little glimmer of hope from Apple, but now you get it early.
We have dug up all the latest and filtered through the old stuff and found the relevant facts about the supposed device. Some of this information has yet to be confirmed. More after the break [...]
The Design
According to iLounge, several prototypes of the Apple Tablet have been produced.
The first version had a 7″ screen, but the current prototype has a 10.7″ screen. The resolution will be 5-6 times that of the iPhone, probably in the 720p range (1280×720).
It will have a similar look to the iPhone 3G and 3GS and have a curved back, we hope it doesn't, because how will you set it on your table!
The tech
The device apparently isn’t really supposed to compete with netbooks and ultra-lights, instead it is aimed at being a larger media player/communications device, perfect for internet surfing, iPhone games, watching movies, and of course, music/podcasts/audio-books.
Details on the memory, storage capacity and processor are sill not available, but iLounge’s source says that the tablet will run the iPhone OS and come in a 3G version and a non-3G version.
It will of course, support multi-touch, Wifi, Blutooth, and maybe HD playback either on the device, or HD output. Accessories are also being considered to be plausible as Apple has opened up hardware integration for developers on the iPhone.
When is it available?
Again, according to iLounge, Apple is currently planning to announce it on or before January 19, 2010, and to use an iPhone-like hype buildup period to start selling it in May or June.
This is a very exact date and we think it is possible, with the guys over at iLounge being so confident in their speculations -- because their sources are very reliable, and they correctly called the iPod nano 5G, iPhone 3GS and Chinese iPhone 3G months ago.
What are your thoughts?
So we covered the in-depth speculations of the iPad and also the release date. But some questions went un answered:
HD support, either on the device or as a video-out option, a phone application to make phone calls, and maybe other accessories.
