The Microsoft Courier: Reasons It Wasn't Announced At CES

Recently I was talking to a good friend who works for a design company in the bay area. We were talking about the big Apple event in the next few days and our conversation led us to the Microsoft Courier. I told him I was excited to see what it could do and he mentioned that it might be a while before anything is revealed about it. Apparently, Microsoft was planning on showing the product sometime soon, like at CES, but the device was having some problems.

When the video of the Courier was first leaked on the internet questions were immediately raised on how the device would recognize your hand-writing. As my friend explained, this is what is stopping the announcement and release of the device. The big problem for the software right now is how to recognize each letter in someone's handwriting. Sure it would be fine if you have great hand-writing but most people have completely different looking writing and some are hard to read, let alone have a computer interpret it. My friend also explained that as of now, the courier will only have a digital keyboard which can be activated by pressing a button on the frame of the device, much like the iPhone's home button.

Obviously their are probably many other reasons the device isn't ready for release yet but if speculation of Apple's Tablet, iSlate, or iPad is true, Microsoft better hurry up before Apple revolutionized yet another aspect of the tech industry.
