    Twitter Banned From White House

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs mentioned casually to CNN today that Twitter is blocked on official White House computers. Gibbs clearly doesn't appreciate the value that can be derived from the innovative social network; he jokes about it as if it is a tool for personal exhibitionism.

Many readers here will no doubt recognize that there's a whole lot more that can be done with the service than that. This is from the same administration thatwon't let its employees at the State Department use Firefox(State Dept. for IT admin reasons), so perhaps nothing is surprising. The Twitter admission by Gibbs was excerpted in a video embedded below, originally reported by Andrew Malcolm of theLA Times.

Malcolm points out the irony in the White House having severalofficial Twitter accounts, but blocking the service from its employees' computers. Perhaps that's whyPresident Obamahasn't been able to update very often since being elected.

Some cynics will say this is great news, that taxpayer money isn't being wasted on using Twitter on White House time. Note, though, thatEnergy Secretary Steven Churecently took to Facebook to have conversations with the public about energy policy, for example.

When it comes to rapid, public conversations and easy relationship building, Twitter is better than Facebook. There is a long list of very innovative "Government 2.0" advocates moving conversation along quite quickly on Twitter. Beyond conversation, the network of people on Twitter offer rapid research assistance, some of the fastest news delivery on the planet and other clear sources of value for knowledge workers. If the White House doesn't want its employees to have access to resources like that while at work, it's honestly a loss for all of us.

How to make Windows XP Look like Windows 7 | Windows 7 Theme

    Windows 7 Transformation Pack

Well, it's finally here. Although Windows 7 RTM is coming near. However, I don't think waiting for Windows 7 RTM tobe releasedfirst wouldn't be wise enough because there may be tons of changes and need another long delay again. This version is pretty much simple forbug fixesand some in-house updates like ViGlance. But why 2.0 instead of 1.0.1 or 1.1? Because there're some special updates in this release and it's just only beginning for me (though some people may aware of this and get bored already).

    Features

Vista compatibilities- Starting from version 2.0, SevenTransformationPackwill supportWindows Vistaoperating systemand allow user to get Windows 7 experiences inWindows Vista. It will support XP/2003 andWindows Vistain same installation package for easy update and avoid conflicts. You may think file size is too large forWindows Vistauser alone but please bear with it.

Bug fixes- some bugs found in previous releases are fixed. This includes clean uninstallation that will remove all installed features and tweaks for real this time. I tested it in Windows XP/2003/Vista and found everything removed properly. Bugs with incorrect icons are fixed also but I intentionly changed closed folder to ones specified in imageres.dll as proper closed folder regardless of Windows Vista/7 keep using opened for both. Vista Rainbar will not longer keep nagging full screenapplicationand have memory leak issue resolved for long-time use.

ViGlance improvements- This is our MVP in this release. You will get the advanced version of ViGlance. It has Aero Peek feature showing live thumbnail on taskbar. You can pinapplicationon taskbar as Windows 7. Options section is now available for ViGlance configuration and yeah.....it has superb graphics updated by Windows X that resembles Windows 7 RTM. The stability is improves a lot too and compatible with vertical taskbar and full screen apps.

    It will also include:

    • Boot screen
    • Welcome Screen / Logon Screen
    • New msstyles files (visual styles)
    • New desktop and file icons
    • New toolbar icons
    • Progress Dialogs
    • Sounds scheme
    • System Tray icons
    • New Wallpapers
    • Some Windows 7's popularfeatures

Microsoft Gazelle | What does this mean for the future of Microsoft?

Microsoft researchers are working on a new browser called Gazelle which it promises will have some impressive new features and capabilities. Gazelle, relies on a “browser kernel” (5,000 lines of C# code) that helps enforce security rules to prevent malicious access to the PC’s underlying operating system.

Gazelle is different from some other browsers in that it considers each part of a Web site — such as iframes, subframes, and plug-ins — as separate elements. Some of those elements can pull in malicious content from other Web sites. Google’s Chrome runs a Web page and its elements in a single process.

Another interesting feature of Gazelle is aimed at blocking so-called race condition attacks. In that scenario, an attacker creates a Web page aimed at making a user click on an area of the page. But just before the predicted click happens, an overlay is drawn into the page, which could cause a user to be attacked. Gazelle will ignore any clicks in newly exposed screen areas for about one second until a user can see the new screen areas.

    Microsoft Gazelle browser Details

The idea behind Gazelle is to create a browser that is more secure for the now typical dynamic pages we find on the Web. According to Microsoft, Gazelle is different as no existing browsers, including new architectures, have a multi-principal operating system constructed in such a way that provides the browser-based OS exclusive control to manage the protection of all system resources.

"Gazelle's security model is centered around protecting principals from one another by separating their respective resources into hardware-isolated protection domains. Any sharing between two different principals must be explicit using cross-principal communication (or IPC) mediated by Browser Kernel."

The research team claims it has successfully browsed 19 of the 20 most popular sites as reported by Alexa with its prototype, but admits the performance of the prototype was only "acceptable." The paper also includes an in-depth comparison of Gazelle's architecture and security with Google Chrome, OP and IE8.
