    App Review - Canabalt (iPhone)

    Canabalt
    App type:
     Game
    Price: $2.99
Compatible: iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad - iOS 3.0 or later
    Developer: Semi Secret Software

Canabalt is simple game with a simple premise; you play as a man bounding across roof tops, dodging everything in your path, with everything from the occasional chair and crate to fluttering white birds acting as obstacles. As a game it’s quite primative, having only one button to control: tapping the screen to jump.

While it isn’t made clear what you’re trying to escape from, there is definitely some sort of massive, 2012-style destruction going on behind you. All of the game world is an 8-bit cityscape splashed with only black’s, white’s, and gray’s. Now that I think of it, Canabalt is a whole lot like The Incident, only you can’t control where you go in this game. You just keep running to the right. And as you start to run faster, you’re going to have to learn to control your player and to time your jumps perfectly. Note that the game is more fun on an iPhone because your device will vibrate as buildings crumble to the ground. Tack on an epic soundtrack to the game and you’ve got a heartpounding, 13.3 MB app for your iPhone.

    Overall

The game is literally one of the simplest and most enjoyable games you can get in the App Store. But if you’re into the latest and most advanced Infinity Blade style title, you’d probably be best off spending your App Store dollars elsewhere. But you should be aware that $2.99 not only buys you the iPhone version, but also the iPod touch and iPad versions of the game as well. However, the entry price is still a bit too steep for us to recommend this game app to anyone, seeing as how simplistic it is.

Update: At the time of this review, Canabalt is on sale for only $0.99 - so grab it while you can!
