Love Plus - Japanese dating game will use camera to recognize players and become faithful to them
In Japan there is a hugely popular genre of video games called Dating Simulators, in which players interact with 2D girls and try their best to court them within the game. Strange and creepy? Yes, but that’s just the beginning!
Konami, the developer of the popular dating sim Love Plus, has announced that utilizing the upcoming Nintendo 3DS and its camera their next iteration in the series will host a “boyfriend lock” feature. What’ll it do? “Boyfriend lock” will enable the game to recognize its player, and in turn keep the girls of the game to remain faithful to that one specific player.
Love Plus to date has sold hundreds of thousands of copies in Japan, which in the US is the equivalent of selling millions. Distancing their players further from reality seems to be the continuous goal of the developers of such games, and I can’t help but feel sorry for these guys. Though the technology is interesting, it’s also creepy as heck!
The Nintendo 3DS is due out February 26th in Japan, and Love Plus 3DS is expected to be released some time thereafter in the near future.
