Apple on the verge of releasing Cloud based iTunes
Remember way back when Apple bought out the online music service known as Lala? Yeah, it’s been a while, but apparently Apple hasn’t totally forgotten about their acquisition and they’re just about ready to unveil the fruits of their labor. Will iTunes finally have music accessible from anywhere on the cloud?
According to Reuters, Apple has finally made good on the hopes of music listeners everywhere by putting on the finishing touches to a cloud based service that would have iTunes libraries accessible from anywhere. Google has also been eying this opportunity to host music on the cloud, but it seems that Apple might beat them to the punch, or so sources close to both companies have said. The search giant has been making in the works to create an iTunes-like store for their Android platform, but with the swapping of Eric Schmidt with Larry Page as CEO there have been a few hiccups, and Apple is taking advantage of the situation.
While both companies are keeping mum about what’s going on, Amazon recently released their own locker service, Amazon Cloud Driver, for people to store upto 5GB’s of data on the cloud, accessible from any web-connected browser. However, this didn’t go without resistence from the record labels who felt they were being bypassed and were curious where their slice of the pie was. Funny though that just a month previous Amazon releasing their cloud service, Apple was negotiating with labels about unlimited music downloads, perhaps for their upcoming iTunes-online service.
Regardless, it all seems as if things are coming together for Apple. And while we haven’t heard much from them in terms of the iPhone 5 and when it’ll be coming out, maybe this will be a big feature that gets touted at the summer event that Apple undoubtedly has planned.
