As if Japan wasn't weird enough as it is, you can now intentionally get crooked teeth by surgery
In what appears to be yet another ploy to make adult women in Japan look younger and younger — due to the ever-growing fascination with child-like features (look up: moe) — girls can now visit a dentist that specializes in intentionally giving you that crooked teeth look.
According to an article found on Oddity Central, one particular office of dentistry in Japan is now offering girls the chance to get their otherwise perfect teeth that extra splash of imperfection they’ve been dying to have (oh boy!):
“Yaeba has been of the hottest trends in Japan for years, and now a dental salon in Tokyo has decided to cash in on it by offering to give the crooked-teeth look to girls with perfect dentures. Dr. Yoko Kashiyama and her staff at the Plaisir Dental Salon, in Ginza district, perform all kinds of cosmetic procedures, but yaeba is definitely among the most popular. Using non-permanent adhesive, she glues custom-made artificial teeth onto the natural canines to lengthen them and make them stand out.”
Even a Japanese TV reporter went ahead with the procedure, getting her canine’s a bit extended.
While it directly doesn’t correlate or originate from the moe culture seen in popular anime from the region, it does make one wonder what the fascination is all about. Where will it end, Japan?
