Awesome Gmail Desktop App could be coming soon
So, there have been many Email Desktop apps popping up in the past while (mostly for Mac), and most of them support Gmail, but there haven’t really been any great Gmail only apps. There are some features in Gmail that don’t translate to other email providers, so sometimes they are stripped out of these Email apps to make sure the experience is consistent, but what if there was an app just for Gmail, and what if it worked on a multitude of OS’s?
It’s not just about the Gmail App
The new Gmail app being developed by Justalab and shot of the final UI design was uploaded to Dribbble yesterday. It looks great, and based on what we can see, the app will support labels, threads, starring, attachments, rich text formatting and search. We can’t really tell what else the app is capable of, but we’re looking forward to finding out more.
Here’s what’s interesting about the app (note: this is developer talk) — the entire app is using a platform called Pokki. It’s essentially a software development platform that allows you to create rich applications using modern web standards like HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript. Sorry we just blew your mind.
Pokki also allows you to take control of a bunch of API’s like Gmail, Groupon, Twitter and Dribbble and the entire package is based of Webkit and Chromium which pretty much guarantees some solid performance and reliability, and compatibility throughout all platforms.
When is the Gmail App going to be released?
As of now, nobody knows. When you look at the big picture, Pokki isn’t even finished yet, so until the platform the app runs on is complete, it’s going to be a bit before we see an awesome Gmail app for all platforms. As for Pokki, you can sift through the development group, and read their blog. You have to let us know, are you excited for a development platform based on web technologies and a Gmail app?
