Blackberry Torch Made Official - My Impression
Ladies and gentlemen hold on to your power ties and laptops, AT&T has released the newest member to the Blackberry family, The Blackberry Torch. Sporting a full 3.2in touch screen, 5MP camera with flash, slide out QWERTY and the latest OS from RIM, Blackberry OS 6. With this you can be the envy of all the suits in your office. And RIM realizes there’s no business like social networking with enhanced support for Facebook, Twitter and do I dare say, Myspace?
Engadget’s live blog allowed me to sit and watch in anticipation to see what new tricks RIM has taught Blackberry. Now, with RIM releasing a full touch screen device, I did all I could do shake my STORMy prejudices and trust that our neighbors to the north got this right. Well, they did. Finally embracing the capacitive touchscreen and the new Blackberry OS looks, for lack of a better word, very touchy from my observation. Almost tablet-like touchy.
After jealously watching Engadget’s live blog yesterday, I decided to hope on a train and pay my local At&t store a visit. And there sure enough was the object of my curiousity, the Blackberry Torch! But then, how much was I let down when I found out it was encased behind bullet proof glass unable to be touched or played with? Just gawked at. However, the thing I did notice was, I wasn’t the only one that did the same thing. There were a couple of other curious people checking out RIM’s latest handset. — Even though one female patron not-so-politely asked me what I was doing there since I had the EVO 4G.
All in all, I can say this is the 2nd Blackberry I would like the pleasure of playing with. My first, and I stand by this even though I’ll be stoned for it, was the Blackberry Pearl. My only knock with this is that it’s an At&t exclusive here in the States but maybe that will change when the BlackPad (I love that name) finally rears it’s mysterious head. Until then, you can look forward to owning this beauty for $199 on contract on August 12th.
