Microsoft recovers 'most, if not all' of your Sidekick data

Well, Today Steve Ballmer took out is magic sack of pixie dust, it did not help though. While Steevey was in the back room, some crafty IT guys at Microsoft have just come out with the announcement that they have recovered "most, if not all, customer data" that was lost during the recent Sidekick debacle.

T-Mobile and Redmond have "rebuilt the system component by component" and now promise to restore data to affected users in the most expedient fashion possible.

In Finland, Broadband Internet Access is a Legal right

Government sucks, usually. But something unusual happened in Finland recently.

Finland is now the first country to make Internet Access a Legal Right, and we are not talking Dial Up

Starting July 2010, every person in Finland will have the right to a one-megabit broadband connection as an intermediate step, says the Ministry of Transport and Communications. By the end of 2015, the legal right will be extended to an impressive 100 Mb broadband connection for everyone.

Is it just me, or is finland now one of the most badass countrys ever?

What effect will this have on the rest of the world? If this has a positive impact on the country in terms of national connectivity, and minimal other legal implementations, like bandwidth caps, restrictions and other "fine print".

All-in-all this seems to be looking to be one of the greatest moments in internet history!

Mac OS X Leopard bug - Login as a Guest, lose all your stuff!

There apparently is a rare bug in OS X Snow Leopard that when you login as a guest, then login as an administrator, it deletes the administrator's user data. It's probably correlated with the fact that the Guest account resets itself after logging out.

Apple is working on a fix at least.

A Command & Conquer MMO?

EA is looking at MMO ideas and one that they were looking at is its Command & Conquer franchise. Now before we get into the whole shpeil about how this may or break the franchise (not like it went through it before), but if EA keeps what C&C is in this MMO game... Well it'd be the first of its kind, and it could be very interesting. But even if it's like Renegade, it'd still stand out.

I'm more or less interested if EA does go through with this idea and see what they come up with.

Resistance 3 billboard appears way ahead of release date

A eagle-eyed NeoGAF user by the name of goldsoundz noticed a startling billboard in his home town of Shreveport, Louisiana -- splayed out on the massive overhead placard is the logo for the heretofore unannounced next installment in Insomniac Games' PS3 shooter franchise, Resistance 3.

I saw this billboard today in Shreveport, Louisiana. There are a lot of movies filmed here, and this one is about some sort of alien takeover of Los Angeles; the name of the film escapes me at the moment. Snapped off a few photos of the billboard since I wasn't sure if the game had been announced yet or not. If not, then I'm surprised Insomniac would be announcing it here of all places.

T-Mobile - We probably lost all the data on your Sidekick

Well, this is just great. This is shaping up to be one of the biggest disasters in the history of cloud computing, and certainly the largest blow to Danger and the Sidekick platform. T-Mobile's now reporting that personal data stored on Sidekicks has "almost certainly been lost as a result of a server failure at Microsoft/Danger."

The only thing we can do is not let our devices power down because anything that's still on there will be lost the next time the device is turned on -- but don't expect a miracle. This is a big ugly mess and is setting up for a bad reputation for cloud computing.
