PS3 Only Does Nothing - Funny GIF

Updated on Jun 28, 2010 by Registered CommenterBrandon Davenport

This is one of those funny Gifs where it not only makes you laugh, but it actually makes sense. Right now the PS3 actually does nothing because of a major hardware problem that started with "fat" models, but has now spreading to the entire PS3 line. People are getting an 8001050F error which does not allow players worldwide from signing into PSN, accessing trophy information, and even playing particular games offline. More info and Funny GIF after the break!

UK Game - stopping 'fat' PS3 trade-ins?

Major UK video game retailer Game has reportedly stopped accepting "fat" PS3's as trade-ins. As most of us know there has been a major issue with all "fat" PS3's worldwide, as Ricardo reported earlier. Apparently PS3 fans who have tried to trade-in their "fat" PS3 consoles to Game have been turned away.

Game say that this is not true and they are encouraging people to trade-in their old PS3's as they seem to think it is a network issue not a hardware issue.

Breaking: PS3 Failure on Global Scale

Panic in the streets! No one is quite certain exactly what the cause of it is yet, but people are suggesting that an error with the internal clocks built into the older (fat) models of the PS3 are preventing players worldwide from signing into PSN, accessing trophy information, and even playing particular games offline.

Slim models don't seem to be affected, but for right now check out this guide written by Chubigans of the Neogaf message boards:

Everyone READ THIS PLEASE.

Here's what's going on right now: something with the PS3's internal clock has borked in some pre-slim models. This is not a PSN issue; it has to do with your PS3's clock. This clock is NOT related to the OS clock. It seems to be a leap year bug. Setting your clock ahead will do nothing. All PS3s around the world were affected at the exact same time.

Does this affect me?

-If you have a Slim PS3, you're good to go. Continue playing it as normal.
-If you have a "fat" PS3, you may be affected. Some fat PS3s have worked ok, but it seems a good majority have been bugged.

What does this bug mean?

-If affected, your date and time has been set to a random past date. This prevents you from signing into PSN, playing any PSN games, or using any DLC. Your trophies will also not display correctly or be able to sync.

How do I fix it?

-You can't. Even if you don't sign into PSN, it won't help. This is a hardware issue.

So, what do I do?

-Wait 24 hours. Other products that have had similar bugs have corrected themselves after the "bugged" day. On Monday around 6pm central time, all PS3s will automatically correct themselves...maybe.

-If that doesn't work, we'll need a firmware update from Sony, which should be a pretty important priority for them right now.

Did I lose my data/themes/etc?

Your save data/games/dlc/themes are fine. They'll be fixed when the PS3 is fixed. Trophies are uncertain right now, but they'll be fine if you've synced them before the PS3 was bugged. Unsynced trophies are an unknown right now.

If I have a bugged PS3, can I still use it?

It's probably not a good idea, as I have no idea what will happen to the trophies you earn during the bugged time. Movies/media will work fine.

So there ya go, my handy FAQ.

Valve admits they messed up on the PS3

Valve hasn't released a game on the PS3 since The Orange Box, citing that the console is a "waste of people's time". While it was a critical success on the Xbox 360 and PC, The Orange Box was a buggy mess on the Playstation console due to the outsourcing of the development to EA.

Despite the previous comments, Valve writer Chet Faliszek says that the company is working to "get better" on the PS3.

"We thought that the Orange Box didn't put our best foot forward with the PS3 community. We don't want to do something like that again on the PS3. We want to give PS3 owners the best possible experience.

"Some of that will come from us learning and getting better. Before we can go onto the PS3 again, we want to make sure we're better at developing for it."

It's good to see that the company is waiting until they can guarantee a good product before dropping a release on the PS3. Hopefully PS3 owners will be able to join in on the zombie killing fun when Left 4 Dead 3 is eventually released.

Sony registers MotorStorm 3 Domain name

Sony has gone ahead and purchased the Motorstorm3.com domain and subsequently pointed it to Playstation.com. While no official announcement has been made for the game, this could be a precursor to an unveiling at this year's E3.

Motorstorm has been a series that has been a bit of a disappointment for many racing fans on the PS3. While the game has been solid, it hasn't had enough speed (see what I did there?) to really sell some systems. Hopefully the third entry in the series will reach the full potential of the game, similar to what Killzone 2 did, but then again that wasn't a system seller either.
